Pro Retro
Pro Retro explores how lighting can visually record each generation with a physical marker from their lives so that overtime the history of these lights are made tangible.
By weaving a rich history into these designs, they remain meaningful to us and resist obsolescence even when style changes.
Selected applicants will be gifted Fluora's Monos, the advanced LED bulb, to build a bespoke lamp around.
Beyond Collectible, selected designs may be selected for limited edition production with Fluora.

COLLECTIBLE New York is the leading fair in the United States dedicated exclusively to contemporary collectible design. Bringing together galleries, design studios, architects and independent makers from around the world, the fair offers a curated perspective on the most relevant developments in contemporary design today.
NEW GARDE the section hosting Pro Retro is dedicated to collectives and not-for-profit structures established within the past three years. It is not open to individual designers and design studios.
Bringing together a range of formats, from physical spaces to digital platforms, as well as initiatives rooted in alternative or domestic contexts, the section highlights new structures shaping the field today.
Lighting interactions that leave visual markers from each generation, to make provenance tangible.
These designs will visually record moments from each owner, serving as a blank canvas for future history. Each generation will modify the design or add physical tokens, memories, or milestones to form this lighting legacy. As the richness of the history grows from multiple owners, so to do the stories we can share.
Championship cups boast the names of each year's victors, and grow in size to make room.
Every 20 years for over 1,300 years the Grand Shrine of Ise is rebuilt to pass skills to the next generation.
The tukutuku woven panels of the Maori peoples display the addition of new lineages.
Family quilts gain a new square with each new generation.
In a world where stylistic changes render off-trend yet completely functional objects obsolete, Pro Retro aspires to guard against waste by infusing these lighting designs with meaning we connect to.
This exploration is part of a larger series navigating the emotional drivers of a circular economy. As a force against needless over consumption we look to meaning as a defense against object obsolescence.
Pro Retro Lighting
Made for the Monos LED Bulb
Selected applicants will be gifted Fluora’s Monos bulb, to design a light fixture for. Beyond Collectible, selected designs may be selected for limited edition production with Fluora.
The Monos features 256 individually controllable color LEDs. Monos lighting animations can customized by the Fluora mobile app. The bulb is also interactive, reacting to sound and gestures.

61mm square, base tapers from 61mm to 55.5mm , 240mm tall.
